 | Fat Salmon Backpacker's Hostel is located in the heart of old town Port Alberni, on the south side of town. We boast a brilliant view of trhe working port and Alberni Inlet, and are a 2-minute walk from the MV Lady Rose's dock and the Harbour Quay. We are a 5-minute walk from all necessary amenities - four different banks, laundromat attached to a pub, internet cafe, pubs, chippies, restaurants, book stores, second-hand shops, antique shops, Western Union money wiring service, kayak/bike/canoe hire, adventure/fishing charters, car hire. | | We offer our guests: free wireless connection, complimentary coffee, tea & hot choccie, fresh garden herbs when in season, BBQ, deck, patio, take-a-book-leave-a-book library, info centre on premise, linens, towels, movie nights (with choice from over 50 international and Hollywood movies), full-kitchen, shuttle to tubing on Somass River, shuttle to/from bus stops, brill atmosphere and Lily the Wonder Dog (some small pets welcome). | | All rooms are dorms. | We are a proud member of Backpackers Hostels Canada, Pacific Hostel Network, Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses, Alberni-Clayoquot Women's Business Network & Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce. | | Directions | Travelling north-west on Highway 4 from Victoria or Nanaimo, we are the last town before Ucluelet and Tofino. Just after the Coombs Candy Store on Highway 4, turn left at the Alberni Valley Information Centre, onto the Port Alberni Highway (which changes names to Redford Street along the way). At the bottom of Redford, turn left onto Stamp (3rd) Avenue. We are midway up the wee hill on 3rd Avenue, two blocks before the corner of Argyle Street, in the heart of "South Port", Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Look for the bright yellow house (located right beside the best authentic Chinese cuisine in town, the Beijing Grand). | | Transportation | You can take the Greyhound bus, the Tofino Bus, the train (which drops you off nearly directly at our back door) or thumb-it up to us. | | Airport | Nanaimo & Comox. | | |
